Advertising Guidelines

Ensure your promotions are effective and meet our community standards.

1 Visual Standards

The 20% Text Rule

To maintain a clean and engaging experience for all users, we require that advertisement images contain less than 20% text coverage.

  • Use high-quality, professional photography.
  • Keep text concise and place detailed info in the caption.
  • Avoid cluttered designs or heavy overlays.

2 Prohibited Content

Island Index prohibits the promotion of the following content:

Illegal Goods & Services
Deceptive Claims
Adult Content
Hate Speech

3 What Counts as Advertising

Advertising on Island Index covers any paid promotion that surfaces your business to a broader or targeted audience. This includes:

  • Feed Boosts - promoted posts that appear in users' feeds alongside organic content.
  • Premium Banners - reserved spots on the explore page and key sections of the site.
  • Sponsored Business Pages - increased visibility for your business profile.
  • Highlighted Listings - pinned or featured entries in category and island directories.

4 Getting Started

  1. Create or open your business page and make sure your profile is complete (logo, description, contact details, opening hours).
  2. Choose a promotion type (feed boost, banner, sponsored page or highlighted listing) that fits your goal.
  3. Set your media and text. Follow the visual standards below and keep your headline clear and honest.
  4. Select your audience by category or island so your promotion reaches the right people.
  5. Choose a duration and budget, then submit for review. Most ads go live within 24 hours.

5 Visual & Text Standards

Well-designed promotions perform better and keep the community experience clean. Please follow these standards:

  • Keep text below 20% of the image area. Put detailed information in your caption or post body.
  • Use high-resolution, original images that reflect your actual products or services.
  • Write a clear, honest headline that matches what your customer will actually receive.
  • Avoid loud, flashing, or distorted effects that could be distracting or trigger photosensitivity.
  • Do not imply partnership or endorsement by Island Index unless you have written approval.

6 Audience & Targeting

You can tailor who sees your promotion:

  • By category - reach users interested in a specific business category.
  • By island - focus delivery on a specific atoll or island.
  • All users - max exposure across the whole platform.

Delivery is estimated and cannot be guaranteed to every match; impressions scale with your budget and duration.

7 Pricing & Billing

  • You are charged at the rates shown when you place your promotion.
  • You can choose a promotion duration (e.g. days or weeks) before confirming.
  • You will not be charged if your promotion is rejected before it starts.
  • Duplicates of the same promotion (same media and text) are not allowed while one is already live or pending.
  • All sales are final once a promotion has gone live. No refunds for live promotions.

8 Review & Moderation

  • Every promotion is reviewed before going live.
  • Most reviews complete within 24 hours. We will notify you of the outcome.
  • If your ad is rejected, the reason will be shared with you so you can fix and resubmit.
  • We may pause or remove any live promotion that violates these guidelines, with or without a refund depending on the case.
  • We may restrict advertising for accounts with repeated violations.

9 Performance & Analytics

  • Track impressions, clicks, and engagement from your ad dashboard.
  • Use the insights to refine your media, headline, and audience for better results.
  • Pro tip: clear, benefit-led headlines and authentic images usually outperform heavily-designed graphics.
